ALL ABOUT
THE ECLECTIC SCREENING ROOM

As early as 1994, founder Greg Woods had always wanted to do a publication dedicated to his lifelong love of cinema, but school, work, and life got in the way. Finally, in the spring of 2001, Greg realized that:

a) he wasn’t getting any younger;

b) it was harder to find writing devoted to the obscure cinema that interested him (and if he was thinking that certain areas of film history were being missed, perhaps others would too, right?).

Thus, The Eclectic Screening Room was born.

Along the way, ESR (for short) has had a slow climb uphill, gaining a small but loyal readership, graduating in various stages from a laser-printed or Xeroxed 40-paged digest-sized zine, to a 40-page publication with colour covers.

Published at least twice a year, The Eclectic Screening Room continues to offer quality writing of cult, underground, and independent film, with an eye for the unusual, the neglected and the forgotten. We have also done entire issues devoted to one theme, such as drive-in movies, Film Noir, educational films, and American cinema of the 1970’s.

With the founding of ESR Media in 2006, ESR further spreads the gospel of the film it holds dear with screenings and DVD releases, all in the name of community.

If you are new to ESR, or if you have read our publication in the past, let us take the time to thank you for your support. Remember, the fringe needs you! It is only with sharing and love that keeps the underground alive.

Thank you for stopping by and enjoy browsing our site. Be sure to check back often for more exciting details at The Eclectic Screening Room.
